In ancient times, warriors would use sapphire as a gift to wives as a symbol of fidelity as they embarked on their travels. It is thought that if the stone would turn dark in color, the person who wore it was unfaithful.

Sapphire was the stone of the god Apollo, and those who wanted blessings from him would wear it when they visited his temple in order to better impress him.

A stone that symbolizes virtue and loyalty, priests would wear it in the Middle Ages as a way to ward off temptation.
