As this new year dawns, many of us at Mana are getting ready to head out on journeys across the globe. From Hawaii to Germany, to Italy it seems to be a month for travel. Perhaps it is the itch that often comes with the cold of winter, or the shorter and darker days to stretch our wings and fly for awhile.
So why do we travel? Likely for all of us the reason is different.
Opportunity? The urge to seek new horizons to remind us of something, to find something we’ve lost, or simply to find something new.
I find that for me, travel has always been a way to let the past, be exactly that, in the past, and to make room for something new.
“Why do you go away? So that you can come back. So that you can see the place you came from with new eyes and extra colors. And the people there see you differently, too. Coming back to where you started is not the same as never leaving.”
― Terry Pratchett,
I actually think that travel, to refresh yourself and rid yourself of negative energy is something that is absolutely necessary in life. By leaving a place, it becomes not only possible, but easier to let go of the heaviness that we accumulate as we go through life, and to see where we live in an easier way.
“Travel brings power and love back into your life.”
― Jalaluddin Rumi
Traveling is often something that can be hard, it tests us, it challenges us, lets us know what we are capable of in ways we never thought we would be. In times of difficulty, it always surprises me how powerful I am.
“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.”
― Augustine of Hippo
We cannot allow new growth unless we first make room, we must let go of the old, and we must overall be present. Presence is what makes travel so valuable, because we are almost forced to really be where we are, something that can be difficult in our daily lives.
“Not all those who wander are lost.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien,
Ultimately, I believe that why we travel, is to remind ourselves that we are alive. To ignite our senses, to teach us, to hurt us, to heal us, and to remind us that we are surrounded by such amazing beauty at all times, we just have to see it.
Love and light!
